What state are you in?
We all move through different states throughout the day. Sometimes we're focused, energised and ready for anything. Other times we're overwhelmed, reactive or struggling to switch off. And often, we don't really understand why.
That's where MayStan comes in.
We help people better understand what's happening beneath the surface, recognise their own patterns and explore practical ways to influence how they feel, think and respond. Not to take life's challenges away — but to develop greater awareness, adaptability and choice in how we navigate them.
It starts with state
Have you ever reacted badly to something, then looked back later and wondered why it bothered you so much? Perhaps you were tired. Under pressure. Or simply having one of those days.
Our physiological state can influence how we feel, what we think and what we do next. And when we begin recognising that connection, something interesting happens: we have more choice.
Does that mean aiming to be calm all the time? Of course not. Good luck with that — we've all got lives to live. The aim isn't one perfect state. It's to recognise where we are, understand whether that state is useful, and know what we might do about it.
Better awareness. More choice.
One Human. Many Influences.
No two people arrive in the same state.
Our sleep, physical and mental health, hormones, medication, nutrition, past experiences and even our genetics can all play a part. Often, several influences are interacting at once.
Our nervous system is continually responding to what's happening within our bodies and around us. Changes in our breathing, physical tension or alertness can offer useful clues about the state we're in.
That's why we begin by understanding the person — with the nervous system providing a practical place to start.
So, what do we actually do?
Understand it. Experience it. Discover what works.
Understand it
First, we make some of the complicated science a little easier to understand — because understanding what's happening within us can be genuinely useful.
Experience it
Then we explore practical ways of influencing our state — movement, breathing, sound, touch, attention and more. We try things, and notice what happens.
Discover what works
Where useful, we take simple measurements alongside your feedback. And the good news? Some techniques take just 30–60 seconds.
Here's the important bit: this isn't about giving you another thing you have to do. We've all got enough of those. It's about discovering practical skills that fit naturally into the life you're already living.
Keep what helps. Leave what doesn't. Adapt as you learn.
Our philosophy
Meet people where they are. Build from there.
The whole person matters
Our health, thoughts, experiences, relationships and environment all influence one another. It's rarely as simple as one cause and one solution.
Understanding is a starting point
Knowing how something works is useful. Experiencing it for yourself is where that knowledge becomes practical.
There isn't one perfect technique
What helps one person might not help another. And what works for you today might be different from what you need tomorrow.
We never stop being curious
Science evolves. We learn from people. We question what we teach and why — and when something needs changing, we change it.
We work at the level of state, not just story. The aim isn't to change who you are or tell you how you should feel — it's to help you understand yourself a little better and develop practical skills for when life gets interesting. And, as we all know, life has a habit of doing exactly that.
It starts with you.
Your story. Your pace. Your starting point.
Whether you're here for yourself, your team, your organisation or the people you support, there's no need to arrive knowing exactly what you need. Tell us a little about what brings you here — we'll take it from there.
